Definition
Search functionality specific to one site.
Information
Site search can make or break the user experience. Great search results can help win long-time visitors. Poor search results (“no records found” or “every record found”) risk losing visitors forever.
Search tools are often divided into two categories; software that runs on your servers and hosted services that run on remote servers. Small sites may benefit from a free site search engine service, although the low cost may come at the expense of 3rd-party advertisements with the search results. Enterprise sites may need to buy more customizable solutions, which often run several thousand dollars or more, depending on volume.
